Canonization of Pope Paul VI!!! – October 14, 2018

Today Most Holy Father Pope Francis canonized Blessed Pope Paul VI!!  This is hugely significant for all Secular Franciscans, as we follow what is called the “Pauline Rule”.

St. Pope Paul VI

Auspicato Concessum,  (Sept. 17, 1882) Pope Leo XIII’s  encyclical letter glorified St.Francis of Assisi on the occasion of the seventh centenary of his birth. In  this encyclical, the Pope presented the Third Order of St. Francis as a Christian answer to the social problems of the times.  The constitution Misericors Dei Filius (June 23, 1883) expressly recalled that the neglect in which Christian virtues are held is the main cause of the evils that threaten societies. In confirming the rule of the Third Order and adapting it to the needs of modern times, Pope Leo XIII had intended to bring back the largest possible number of souls to the practice of these virtues.

Although his intentions were good, to make the rule easier to follow with hopes of growing the order in size, an increase in piety did not follow with the successful increase in numbers.

The Third Order of St. Francis as it was called then became more of a social club, a group that met for food and prayer, rather than a true order of penitents who certainly met and prayed, but must spend their lives devoted to “Living the Gospel according to the rule of St. Francis of Assisi”.  (Rule 4)

Tau

The Rule of St. Paul VI approved in 1978, the “Pauline Rule”, brought our beloved order back to its roots as penitents of a true Third Order of St. Francis, renamed the Secular Franciscan Order.  We wear a Tau as our “habit” and live our lives in the world, while in prayer and helping others in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.

Most Holy Father Pope Francis:
Pax et Bonum!  My prayers are with you.  It is with heartfelt grief and sorrow that I find myself writing to you today.  Before God and before you most Holy Father, I am nobody.   I am a humble servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, a prayerful member of our Holy Catholic Church, a Professed Secular Franciscan, a Confirmation Catechist, a mother, grandmother, sister and daughter.  Yet although I am nobody, I am the body of Christ, therefore I am everybody.
It is in being faithful to my conscience as the body of Christ that I writing to you today. For as the Apostle John (9:41) teaches that Jesus said to them “if you were blind you would have no guilt, but now that you say ‘we see’, your guilt remains.”
Most Holy Father, the prophet Isaiah best explains the state of your lay and religious faithful…. For until now we did hear and see, but we did not perceive.
Is 6:9-10 You shall indeed hear but never understand, you shall indeed see but never perceive.  For this peoples’s heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should perceive with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn to me to heal them.
Now that we see…
But now, we the body of Christ do hear, do see and do perceive and understand that which we could never have imagined.  Forgive me Your Holiness, but we do now see the evidence in grand jury reports, documentation, payoffs exposed, letters asking for help from Honduran seminarians, Chilean Bishop abuses, McCarrick scandal etc.  We now see clearly that some of our priests and bishops to whom you rely and entrust your beloved faithful have been blinded by the world-view, lack of faith and sin.  We now see that within our Church there are some who’s human needs for power, politics, pride, egotism, predatory sodomistic behavior and clericalism have taken precedence over the teachings of God and the Spiritual.  We, the lay faithful hear, see, perceive and understand all to clearly the words our Lord spoke to our beloved brother St. Francis, “Go and rebuild my church which is falling into ruins”.
In hindsight we now see the long term fruits of accommodating sin (of whatever nature) within our Holy Church:

  • Vocations are Down
  • Church Attendance is Down
  • Catholics questioning the validity of the Sacraments
  • Catholics leaving the one true faith
  • Irreverence or unbelief in the Holy Presence
  • Churches closing
  • Interfaith divisions rising
  • Parishioner monetary offerings are paying for silence and sinful abuse of clergy

On one extreme we see the silence of our bishops, the inability and unwillingness of our priests and bishops to speak of sin, as sin, for what it is using carefully crafted statements and avoiding the true words for fear of offending those who engage in sinful practice or internal ramifications.  The other extreme, an overt and vicious ostracizing of those priests and bishops who do speak of the sins of the past and current “secrets”.
We hear of an upcoming worldwide meeting of bishops on the abuse of minors and “vulnerable” adults.  What is a vulnerable adult?  Abuse of minors and adults, NOT “VULNERABLE” ADULTS.  Men and boys including precious seminarians on their way to the sacrament of Holy Orders.
We see there exists an active predatory sodomy problem within the ranks of our priests and bishops co-existing alongside the truly Holy and Chaste, Spiritual Godly priests and bishops.  We see this ascends to the highest levels of our Holy Church.
We the faithful do now hear, do now see, and do now understand, but in our humble state only see what has been shared with us to see.  We are turning to you, Holy Father and the Lord our God to heal us.    As we have mercy in our hearts for those who are abiding in sin or condoning it, please have mercy on your faithful who are losing their faith and their Holy Mother Church as a result of it and of those who have firsthand experience of abuse.
What we humbly request….
Our humble request Your Holiness is that you allow God to prevail by trusting in Him and doing His will.  Allow transparency within His Holy Church by enabling those prayerful lay faithful with no agenda, to unlock the secrets at the highest levels, the financials, the payoffs, the abusers and the secret files, exposing the sin and thus neutralizing it.   We are The Body of Christ, members of one another through Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 25:1   Therefore, putting away all falsehood, let everyone speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.
John 8:32   …”and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
We ask that by following God’s Holy Word however difficult, upon the revelations of disclosure, those abiding in sin are purged from our Holy Church; and that however many priests and bishops must be removed, however many churches must close, however many parishioners leave, that you will trust Him who is all good and all holy and all eternal and in your Church’s faithful to stand by Your Holiness during this trial.  We ask for God’s mercy on His faithful body of Christ, especially those hurt by the sins of others whether physically, spiritually or emotionally, and for those abiding in sin who will be removed from their posts.
Our faith and hope is in Christ and that the fruits of this labor will be abundant…a full and complete reversal of the statistical trends of the last millennia:

  • Tremendous rise in Vocations
  • Church attendance up
  • Catholics receiving Sacraments
  • Conversions to Holy Catholic Church
  • Holy Presence revered and adored.
  • Urgent need for more Churches
  • Communion with our separated brethren
  • Parishioner offerings used for the poor and needy and seminarians.

Our bishops are failing us…
1Tim 5:20-22   As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.  In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these rules without favor, doing nothing from partiality.  Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, nor participate in another man’s sins; keep yourself pure.
The abiding of sin for whatever the good purpose appears to be tearing down our Church from within. We the lay faithful now find ourselves living St. Paul’s letter to the Romans:
Romans 1:21-22…for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened.  Claiming to be wise they became fools…
Romans 1:26  For this reason, God gave them up to dishonorable passions.  Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error.  And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and improper conduct.  They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice.  ……….they not only do them but approve those who practice them.
Have we learned nothing from our forefathers in the desert?  Yes, our Church is suffering and we the faithful know full well that God will prevail as he tells us throughout Holy Scripture and Tradition.
However, our thoughts again turn to St. Paul’s Final Instructions in Romans:
Romans 16:17-20   I appeal to you brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions and difficulties in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them, for such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but for their own appetites, and by flair and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple minded.  For while your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I would have you wise as to what is good and guileless as to what is evil; then the God of Peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.  The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
What we will do…
We will pray.  We will fast and abstain.  We will spend time with our Lord at Adoration.  We will participate in our Parish’s good works.  We will offer up our time and services to you Your Holiness, at your service, as you determine your needs of us.  We will go to Mass and partake of the most holy Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.  In the words of St. Francis, “For I see nothing corporeally of the Most-High Son of God except His most holy Body and Blood…”
May God grant you, Holy Father, His peace and joy.  Know that your faithful are praying for you, are with you throughout this trial and are anxiously awaiting the results of your labors, that our Lord Jesus Christ may shine forth in all his radiant and majestic glory.
With heartfelt love and prayers,

Fatima 100 Year Anniversary!!! – May 13, 2017

May 13th, 2017 marks the 100-year anniversary of the first time our Blessed Mother Mary appeared to three shepherd children in Portugal. Two of the three children will be canonized by Pope Francis during his visit to Fatima May 12-13th.

Jacinta and Francisco Marto are pictured with their cousin Lucia dos Santos (right) in a file photo taken around the time of the 1917 apparitions of Mary at Fatima, Portugal. Pope Francis has approved the recognition of a miracle attributed to the intercession of two of the shepherd children, thus paving the way for their canonization. (CNS file photo) See POPE-FATIMA-MIRACLE March 23, 2017.

The first Marian apparitions began May 13, 1917, when 9-year-old Francisco Marto and 7-year-old Jacinta Marto, and their cousin Lucia dos Santos, reported seeing the Virgin Mary. The apparitions of Mary continued once a month until Oct. 13, 1917, and later were declared worthy of belief by the Catholic Church.
This fascinating event contains secrets which Mary shared with the children as well as the “Miracle of the Sun” witnessed by thousands of spectators.

A year after the apparitions, both of the Marto children became ill during an influenza epidemic that plagued Europe. Francisco died April 4, 1919, at the age of 10, while Jacinta succumbed to her illness Feb. 20, 1920, at the age of 9.
The children’s cousin Lúcia moved to Porto in 1921, and at 14 was admitted as a boarder in the school of the Sisters of St. Dorothy in Vilar, on the city’s outskirts. On October 24, 1925, she entered the Institute of the Sisters of St. Dorothy as a postulant in the convent in Tui, Spain, just across the northern Portuguese border. Lúcia professed her first vows on October 3, 1928, and her perpetual vows on October 3, 1934, receiving the name “Sister María das Dores” (Mary of the Sorrows).
Sister Lucia died in 2005 at the age of 97. The diocesan phase of her sainthood cause concluded in February and now is under study at the Vatican.
